Infratróia strengthens prevention against the pine processionary caterpillar
In December 2025, Infratróia carried out a new preventive action against the pine processionary caterpillar (commonly known as “cobrelo”), covering all pine trees located in the urban green areas under its management, as well as specimens located along the Main Road, on the cycle path side.
The treatment was carried out through endotherapy, a method consisting of injecting an active substance directly into the tree trunk. This substance is absorbed by the vascular system and distributed throughout all the pine tree tissues, preventing caterpillar development without the need for spraying. It is a technique recognized as one of the most effective and safest, both for users of public spaces and for animals.
The product applied is approved by the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DGADR), the entity also responsible for accrediting applicators.
To date, no sightings or formation of caterpillar nests have been recorded in the treated areas.
Complementary Nest Removal
In parallel with the preventive treatment, Infratróia also carried out the mechanical removal and elimination of nests that formed this year in pine trees located along the Main Road, on the side of the tree pits.
The operation includes on-site burning to prevent the spread of caterpillars to other areas.
